National - Change to Government Fare Cap
The National Bus Fare Cap funded by HM Government is changing from January 2025. From Wednesday 1st January, single fares will be capped at £3.00 on all eligible bus services, an increases from the current £2.00 cap.
From this date there will be changes to singles fares on all of our eligible services as follows:
- Fares that are naturally £2.00 or under will remain at those levels.
- Fares that are naturally more than £2.00 but less than £3.00 will revert back to their normal levels, as advertised on our fare-charts.
- Fares that are naturally more than £3.00 will now be capped at £3.00.
There are some exceptions to the above as follows:
- Services F1, F2, F3, R4, 306, 701, 702, 812 & 813 remain ineligible for the cap.
- There are small concurrent fare changes on services Novus Direct, 8, 10, 12 & 375.
- Single Fares on services 23, 24, 25, 61, 67 & 68 within the Cambridge & Peterborough area will remain capped at £2.00 until the end of March 2025 following local funding provided by the CPCA.
As with the previous £2.00 scheme, the cap does not apply to multi-use or season tickets which will continue to be available at their regular prices. Passengers are advised to check their ticketing options before travelling as day, week or other season passes may now present a better value fare than purchasing multiple single tickets.
